Since for various reasons my hair has now changed from a peroxided white-blonde mid-length bob, to a short Manic Panic Candy Cotton Pink bob (more of that later), I’ve been looking for ways to accessorise with my new hair. After all, the last time I had pink hair was in my twenties, and those years are now long gone!
So here I am with my patent nude Kurt Geiger heels, teal Dorothy Perkins dress, yellow and white-cream Karen Millen coat, and bright pink patent H&M for Versace Belt. Not forgetting the aviator shades and Rimmel’s ‘Pin-up’ pink lip-gloss, of course!
Today’s school-run shoes are a departure from my usual brightly coloured footwear, being as they are a pair of nude Carvela heels from the Kurt Geiger store in Brighton.
They incorporate hidden platforms under the balls of the feet, which make walking more pleasant. But I’d be kidding if I said they were my most comfortable shoes, as their rounded fronts make them serious toe squeezers!
I’ve also noticed that being both nude and patent they mark extremely easily.
So all in all, these are neither my most practical or comfortable heels, but they’re rather pretty none the less – although perhaps a bit too safe and inoffensive for my liking, which is why I like to pair them with my usual bright and questionable clothes, just to shake it up a bit!
And since nude heels make my legs look endless, wearing tasteful and unadventurous footwear is a sacrifice I’m willing to make – for once!
With today’s sky being a typically British grey, rain-threatening day, I opted to wear my sunny yellow Karen Millen coat with hint of hot pink flared dress underneath.
The nude Carvela heels nicely accentuate the pale stripe encircling the coat’s waist (at the top of the photo), and its cuffs and button-holes.
I’ve actually been thinking of changing the black buttons to a bright pink, as to me the black seems jarringly out of place against both such pale material, and such a cheerful yellow colour too.
I’ve also streaked my bleached white-blonde shoulder-length hair with the pink Kevin Murphy Color Bug, which is a genius invention, like powdered eye-shadow but for hair (“wipe on, wash out, change your hair colour as quick as your make-up”).
What better antidote to the Monday blues than to wear your own shocking ray of sunshine?!
Here I am on a very cold February Friday morning wearing my patent black United Nude Eamz shoe-boots with a blue-black fur coat from Reiss’ 1971 line, bright orange scarf from Primark, and black brick dress by Olivia Rubin. I am, thankfully, quite warm!
And I love this coat: to me it screams trashy glamour and seedy, sexy rock and roll – as if I’d just got in from partying all night rather than just dropping the kids off at school!
I love how the smartness of the little black dress and patent shoes acts as a fashion counterbalance or counter statement. It’s like rock and roll for the workplace…or in my case, the home and housework!
Today’s school-run shoes: my United Nude brown leather Step Möbius Hi boots from a few years back. They’re a bit big for me (that’s what happens when you buy things in online sales), but at least it means I can wear my thick hiking socks inside them, and my toes are stylish and TOASTY! 🙂
Here’s a pic of my AW11 Therapy brand, fluffy faux-fur coat which has been seeing me through the recent cold snap. Note the skinny jeans instead of tights, and leggings paired with the United Nude Eamz shoes (which makes them almost a practical snow boot, right?!). LOVE.
Today’s school run shoes: white United Nude Eamz worn with pink and silver leg-warmers, skinny jeans and a massive fuck-off fluffy, Therapy brand furry coat thingy. Watch and learn, Primary School-ers, watch and learn ;-p
